HumanRightsTV and Open Source

Windows 7 Sins

HumanRightsTV is run on open source principles and uses Ubuntu for its desktops, Ubuntu Studio for its studio operation, Kdenlive for its video editing, Kino for its encoding. We strongly believe that the business model provided by these platforms makes absolute sense. Conversely it is our opinion that, especially during a recession, any business which operates an IT policy that pays for its software, is restricted in its use by corporate lock in, tied into an ongoing fee structure and is purchasing product that cannot match the performance specifications of open source options is running a very poor business model. We are further of the opinion that open source options are the only sensible option for governments and that the denial of open source platform use for taxpayer funded projects, without even covering the security issues, through the establishment of corporate software models is simply undemocratic. The mythology that open source software product is inferior is in our long experience simply untrue.
